San Gerardo de Dota
- Medium:
- Hand embroidery on cotton
- Year:
- 2025
A symmetrical V of forested slopes cradles a river of fog. Delicate thread-painting fades the distant canopy into cloud, a study in the quiet drama of the Talamanca highlands at dawn. Thousands of layered French knots give the near ridge its dense, mossy texture.
Stitched entirely by hand over about 6 weeks.

San Gerardo de Dota is a hidden cleft in the Talamanca mountains — a river valley of moss-draped oak cloud forest where the resplendent quetzal nests. At dawn the mist pours over the ridgelines and pools in the valley before the sun burns it off, the exact moment this piece holds. At 2,200 meters the air is cool and the forest drips with epiphytes.
