High on the grassy shoulders of the Cerros de Escazú, the Central Valley opens below in a haze of coffee farms and distant volcanoes. In the dry-season light the pasture grasses bleach to gold and bend in the trade winds — exactly the shimmer Hazel chased into thread. Hawks ride the thermals here, and on clear mornings you can see across the valley to the Poás and Barva peaks.
