A tall oval composition of primary rainforest, mist threading between the crowns of emergent trees. The dense stumpwork foliage stands in relief off the fabric, almost sculptural in raking light. Dozens of greens are blended stitch by stitch to capture the lushness of the Costa Rican interior.
Stitched entirely by hand over about two months.

Braulio Carrillo drops from the volcanic highlands into a wall of primary rainforest so steep and wet it was never cleared. Clouds snag on the emergent trees and the canopy steams after every rain, layering ridge behind ridge into blue distance. It is some of the most biodiverse forest in Costa Rica — Hazel built its density in raised, sculptural stitches.
